Laser Therapy
The Pain Relief Institute takes pride in offering a wide range of non-invasive, non-surgical pain management options embodying the latest advances in laser therapy.
Among the most effective are MLS laser therapy to promote healthy new tissue growth in damaged areas. But every patient is different and presents with a unique set of pain management needs. Fortunately, at the Pain Relief Institute, we are experts at providing any therapy that will provide benefits, including multiple laser therapy options.
Benefits of Laser Therapy
Analgesic Effect
Due to the gate control mechanism of pain, mechanical stimulation of free nerve endings leads to their inhibition and hence pain relief.
Biostimulation
Injuries are characterized by lower levels of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the cells, and ATP provides the fuel for the cells to do their work. Laser light stimulates the production of ATP, allowing for faster synthesis of RNA and DNA and leading to faster recovery, healing, and edema reduction in the treated area.
Microcirculation Stimulation
High Intensity Laser therapy actually heals the tissue while providing a powerful and non-addictive form of pain management.
Thermic Effect
The thermic effect causes vasodilation and in consequence, increased blood perfusion.
Anti-inflammatory Effect
Energy delivered to the cells by the High Intensity Laser speeds up cell metabolism and causes faster resorption of proinflammatory mediators. Even though it is high intensity, it is still considered non-invasive laser therapy because there is no surgical process needed to address the inflammation.
Muscle Relaxation
As increased perfusion passes more blood through the treated area, the muscles relax.
What is Non-invasive Laser Therapy and How Does it Work?
As the name implies, this pain management therapy relies on laser light. The laser light energy from the device stimulates the body to begin healing at the cellular level through a series of biological and chemical processes.
Laser Therapy Enhances Cell Growth & Repair
Cells can regenerate faster with the light stimulation provided by laser therapy. This helps wounds heal faster and promotes faster recovery from illness and even possible reversal of damage already done.
Laser Therapy Promotes Disruption and Softening of Scar Tissue
Laser therapy at our pain management centers in Chicago also helps reduce the formation of scar tissue during healing. This is important because for all the scar tissue we see outside the body, there is often more inside, and this can affect muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and more.
Laser Therapy and Pain Reduction
Light signals the release of certain hormones and chemicals within the body, and our treatments and therapies boost these levels quickly. With more of these hormones in the body, pain is reduced, and healing is sped up significantly.
Laser Therapy Provides a Chronic Pain Reset
When someone suffers from chronic pain, there can come a point where their body remembers the pain to such an extent that it almost doesn’t remember what no pain feels like. Non-invasive laser therapy is thought to help reset the nerves to help reduce pain.
Laser Therapy Decreases Swelling
Exposure to the light of a laser helps break up pockets of fluid and fat that cause swelling and inflammation. This helps loosen muscles, un-pinch nerves, and provide greater mobility and less pain in the treated area.
Laser Therapy Increases Blood Flow
Blood flow has also been shown to be improved with therapies like these, and with more blood flow, the area gets more oxygen and other essential elements needed to stay healthy, strong, and functional.
Laser Therapy Enhances Nerve Function
The laser therapy we offer here at the Pain Relief Institute of Chicago allows for an increase in nerve cell regeneration, which helps keep nerves healthy, strong, and functioning as they should. This, in turn, results in less pain, numbness, and weakness.
What Is MLS Laser Therapy?
MLS laser therapy is a type of non-invasive laser therapy and a pain management technique that uses low-level laser therapy to reduce pain and inflammation. Lasers are, essentially, helping the cells to complete a natural process that has, for some reason, stalled or slowed. As already described, the light from lasers can be very helpful in pain relief and healing, and low-level laser light is a safe and often effective way to treat even sensitive areas of the body and delicate tissue injuries. MLS laser therapy is indicated primarily for musculoskeletal pain, including:
-
- Tendinitis and bursitis
- Sprains, stains, and tears of muscles and tendons
- Arthritis and other degenerative joint conditions
- Slipped, herniated, pinched, or bulging discs
- Spinal compression and pinched nerves
- Pain associated with sports or work-related injuries
- Sciatica and lower back pain
- Shoulder and neck pain
- Upper back pain and stiffness
- Injuries to the soft tissues
- Scarring, both exterior and interior
- Pre- and post-surgical pain
MLS Therapy treatments in our Chicago pain management centers are non-invasive, painless, and can be applied successfully to patients of any age. Patients with special therapeutic requirements should consult their doctor before getting laser therapy. Pregnant women, those on chemo or other cancer treatments, and individuals with diabetes, pacemakers, or other serious health concerns also need to be cautious and work closely with our team to ensure the benefits of laser therapy outweigh any risks involved. We will also answer any and all questions you may have about laser therapy and treatments.
What Is HILT Laser Therapy?
High Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) is a unique laser therapy system that is unlike other laser treatments due to its ability to penetrate through bone, soft tissue, and muscle. Despite it being high intensity, it is still a type of non-invasive laser therapy. It provides the same healing, regeneration, and pain management that normal laser therapy offers but is able to be used in more areas and to deeper penetration.
Medications and injections may provide short-term help with pain, but once they wear off, the pain comes back because they focus on the symptoms rather than the cause. Surgery aims at targeting the causes of reoccurring pain but often brings a great deal of risk and a long recovery with no real guarantee of success. HILT is a non-invasive treatment that focuses on the tissue that is damaged, not merely a symptom of the injury. It repairs the tissue from the inside out, and here at the Pain Relief Institute, we are proud to offer our Chicago area patients HILT treatments in addition to our other therapy options.
